FLOOD GATES
Marine Asia is a distributor of flood gates from Wang Tak Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a Hong Kong engineering firm with a flood protection track record dating back to 1982, including floodgate and flood-door installations across the MTR network.
With increasingly severe rainstorms and typhoons affecting Hong Kong, flood gates have become an essential line of defence for building entrances, underground stations, basement car parks, substations and other low-lying openings. Wang Tak Engineering designs, fabricates and installs each gate to suit the site's dimensions, design waterhead and operational needs.
Full-Height Floodgates & Flood-Doors
For underground entrances requiring protection against design waterheads from 2.6m up to 25m (proven installations). Configurations include hinged types (single or double side, single or multi-panel), folding types, horizontal and vertical sliding types (manual or mechanised with manual back-up), and water-tight doors. Notable installations include the fully automatic electro-hydraulic vertical sliding floodgate at Causeway Bay Station / Times Square (5m H x 4.5m W, 25m design waterhead).
Part-Height Flood Barriers
For above-ground entrances and carpark ramps, with protection heights of 600mm to 2,000mm. Options include removable single panels, stackable multi-panel systems (extruded marine-grade aluminium, up to 3.5m W x 2.0m H, tested to PAS 1188-4:2014), and the Swing-Lift Floodgate — single hinged for openings of 2–6m, double hinged for 6–12m.
Materials & Standards
Gates are fabricated in hot-dip galvanised mild steel or marine-grade aluminium (plate 5083-H116, sections 6061/6082-T6) with stainless steel fittings and EPDM seal systems, designed to the Buildings Department Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Steel 2011, BS 8118, PAS 1188-4:2014 and MTRC design standards.
